Mature and Transfer Applicants

There Is More Than One Route In

Roughly a quarter of our students did not come straight from school. If your qualifications are older, incomplete, or from a different system, that is not a barrier — it is a conversation.

  • Recognition of prior learning. Relevant work experience and professional qualifications can count towards entry, and sometimes towards credit.
  • Transfer with credit. Completed study elsewhere can be mapped onto our programmes, letting you join in the second year.
  • Foundation year. A one-year route onto most degrees for applicants who do not yet meet direct entry requirements.
  • Part-time and evening study. Available across business, computing, education and health programmes.

Fees and Funding

Support With the Cost of Study

No student should be priced out of a place they have earned. Several routes are available, and most are assessed alongside your application with no separate form to complete.

  • Merit scholarships — awarded automatically on academic performance at entry, worth up to 40% of tuition.
  • Bursaries — means-tested support towards living costs, paid in three instalments across the year.
  • Payment plans — spread tuition across the year in monthly instalments at no extra cost.
  • Hardship fund — discretionary support for students whose circumstances change mid-course.

Questions

Answers to the Things People Ask Most

If your question is not here, the admissions team answers email within one working day.

Can I apply to more than one programme?

Yes. You can name up to three programmes on a single application and we will consider you for each in the order you list them. There is no additional fee, and being unsuccessful for your first choice does not affect the others.

What happens if I do not meet the entry requirements?

Apply anyway. We assess applications in the round, and a strong personal statement, relevant work experience or a good reference can offset a shortfall elsewhere. If direct entry is not possible we will usually offer a place on the foundation year instead.

Do I need to attend an interview in person?

No. Interviews are offered online or on campus, whichever suits you, and both carry exactly the same weight. Interviews last around twenty minutes and are a conversation about your interests rather than a test.

When will I hear back?

Most applicants receive a decision within ten working days of submitting a complete application. Programmes that require a portfolio or an audition can take a little longer, and we will tell you if that applies to you.

Can I defer my place?

Yes. Once you hold an offer you can request a deferral of up to one year, and your scholarship award is deferred with it. Just let admissions know before the enrolment deadline.

Is accommodation guaranteed?

Every first-year student who accepts an offer by the deadline is guaranteed a place in university halls. Returning students apply through a separate ballot, and the accommodation office helps with private housing.

What support is there for international students?

A dedicated international team handles visa guidance, airport pickup, and a week-long orientation before term starts. English language support runs throughout the year at no extra cost.

Do you accept credit from another university?

In most cases yes. Send us your transcript and module descriptions and the faculty will map them against our programme. Successful transfers usually join in the second year.
